If your computer previously ran quickly and smoothly, then you really can’t blame the hardware being at fault. Yes, you can speed up your slow computer by upgrading the CPU, adding more RAM or buying a Solid State Hard Disk Drive, but none of those expensive solutions address the underlying problem. Your hardware isn’t under-powered. It’s overloaded.
Windows PCs typically slow down as they age, the more you use it and as more and more applications are installed and used. When it comes to computers, prevention is always the best cure. Many computer problems can be avoided if basic housekeeping is conducted. Keep an eye on temporary files which accumulate over time, primarily from browsing the web and installing and using many software applications over a prolonged period of time.

Turn off Aero
Microsoft use a technology called Aero since Windows Vista to improve the look and feel of the operating system’s menus and buttons. Whilst it does make Windows look very sleek, it is not necessary and does cause strain on your computer and does in actual fact slow it down. Aero is switched on by default. I highly recommend you switch it off.
Spring Clean Your Web Browser
Each time you go online and browse the internet, your web browser stores your history within the Temporary Internet Files folder. Naturally over time, the size of this folder builds up as you do more web browsing and surfing. If you keep an eye on the Temporary Internet Files and don’t let it get too big by emptying it out from time to time will increase the amount of valuable disk space and reduce the chances of slowing your computer down.
Get rid of junk Web Browser toolbars and plug-ins
Extra web browser toolbars are a classic example of bloatware (more about bloatware further down). Sometimes with new PCs, they already come pre-installed with useless toolbars, and many downloadable applications you will find online also ask you to install toolbars. When installing software, make sure you pay attention during the installation process and don’t fall for 3rd-party add-ons and the like. Unusually, you will be offered the choice to opt out by un-ticking a tick box. Removing toolbars is just as easy as removing normal software.
Clean out Temporary Files
Use the built-in Window’s Disk Clean-up utility to help speed up your computer’s performance by deleting temporary files and unnecessary system files. These temporary and unnecessary system files degrade PC performance as well as take up hard drive space.
Clean out the Registry
Windows leaves behind invalid references within the registry whenever programs are removed or crashes occur, registry cleaners are designed to remove these invalid references. Some examples of these resources may include DLLs, programs, fonts, uninstalled programs, or system information that is out of date. These references can be left behind when a program is not uninstalled properly, the uninstaller is poorly written, or the system has crashed in the past causing these invalid entries.
A really good and powerful Windows registry cleaner can not only optimize the Windows registry, but keeps the entire computer system running fast and turns a slow PC into a fast PC. Only the best registry cleaners feature tools that enable them to become more than a registry cleaner. Customer support in your local language and time zone is also crucial, when you need support you need it now and not any later. RegCure Pro is definitely one of those.
Upgrade to the Latest Version of Windows
If you don’t have Windows 10 you should upgrade now. As each version of Windows contains various updates and new features which better improves the performance of a computer.
If you are using Windows Vista, you really should immediately upgrade. Here are the top 3 reasons why you should upgrade Windows Vista and why it is the worst performing OS of all time:
- Hogs Memory
- Constant Hard Drive Activity
- Un-Optimized code: Slower not Faster
When Windows Vista was introduced, it came with a new style of memory management, unique to itself and unique to all operating systems. The idea behind it was why not allow Vista to use all of the memory that is currently not being used and available. The logic behind this functionality was that free memory is essentially wasted memory, so let’s use it all up. Except this made exactly zero memory available for every other program!
Constant Hard Drive Activity
Windows Vista is way too big of an operating system and it is a burden on RAM and hard disk drives. It does not matter how much RAM your computer has, it is never enough. Windows Vista is too inefficient to load itself and run programs without the use of virtual memory and swap files. This drastically slows your computer right down as the hard disk drive has to constantly juggle Vista accessing it and loading software.
Un-Optimized code: Slower not Faster
Microsoft added so many changes and features to Windows Vista that the code got huge and messy. Vista has over 50 million lines of code, 10 million more than XP, completely unnecessary.
Identify and Remove Bloatware
Bought a new PC recently and expected it to boot quicker than it is? Expected it to perform better than it currently does? Very likely your new PC has been pre-loaded with bloatware. It is also perfectly normal for your PC to accumulate bloatware as time goes by during prolonged usage. Many preinstalled bloatware programs can be uninstalled easily, but the trick lies in knowing what can be safely removed and what you should keep. The best way to combat this is with specialist software if you are having difficulty what not to remove and what to keep. RegCure Pro is one such specialist software. If you find software installed on your computer than you don’t know or remember installing or ever using, very likely this is bloatware.
Keep your software up to date
Always ensure all your software and computer device drivers are up to date. This includes Windows itself. You will find new software updates on a weekly basis for at least one of your programs, Windows or hardware installed on your computer.
Unclutter your hard disk drive
It is a very good idea to use all the built-in tools Windows comes with to speed up your computer, and Disk Cleanup is most certainly one of them. To use Disk Cleanup:
Click Start, type ‘Disk Cleanup’ into the search box and click on the icon that pops up. What Disk Clean up does is it deletes accumulated temporary Internet Files, Offline Files, empty’s out the recycling bin, and other types of unnecessary files located on your hard disk drive. Removing junk from your computer is a good way of speeding up your slow PC.
Now That You Have the Right Knowledge it is Time to Take Action Now
Now you can finally put an end to your slow computer and make it fast like it originally was and meant to be. All the recommendations will definitely boost your slow computer, you will feel a significant improvement after all or at least most the recommendations have been implemented.
